History
Kandi Raj College was established in 1950 to fulfil long-cherished local aspirations in Kandi sub-division. It started on 4th September, 1950 with 61 students, occupying five rooms of Kandi Raj High School. At its start the college was affiliated to Calcutta University. The Government of West Bengal elevated it to Government Sponsored status in the 1956-57 academic session, and undergraduate courses first started in 1957-58. The college was started under the auspices of the First President of the Governing Body, Late Kumar Arun Chandra Sinha, and the First Principal, Late Dr. D.L. Das.
Academics
Honours courses in Philosophy and English were introduced in 1959-60. Honours courses in Physics and Political Science were launched in 1996. An honours course in Geography was introduced in 2012. The college offers merit-based admission to the first semester of its 4-year undergraduate courses.
Campus & Facilities
The college has its own building complex and a student strength in excess of 2,000. Listed facilities include a gymnasium, hostel, student canteen and teachers' quarters.
Mission & Values
The college's vision is to develop society intellectually through the spread of education. Its motto, Aaloy Aalokmoy Karo, means Enlightenment. The college aims to provide barrier-free higher education to deserving students irrespective of caste, creed, religion or gender. Every year on 21st February it observes International Mother Language Day to promote linguistic awareness and harmony.
Admissions
Admission routes include merit-based admission to the first semester of 4-year undergraduate courses through an online portal, and a second phase of merit-based admission to the first semester. Quotas are available for physically challenged (PWD) and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) candidates.
