A private business college in Jacksonville that operated from 1918 to 2017, offering undergraduate degrees in business, education, and medical fields.
Jones College offered undergraduate and associate degree programs in business, information technology, medical assistant training, education, and legal studies. The college was nationally accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) and certified by Florida's Commission for Independent Education (CIE) to grant both associate and bachelor degrees. Upon closure, students were offered the opportunity to transfer to Keiser University to complete their coursework.
The main campus was located in the Arlington neighborhood of Jacksonville at the foot of the Mathews Bridge. Jones College was notable for being the first business college to establish a student dormitory. The college also offered distance learning options in addition to on-campus instruction, maintaining a 12:1 student-to-faculty ratio in physical classrooms.
Originally founded as Jones Business College in 1918, the institution held its first classes in a private home. After nearly a century of operation, the college announced its closure following the U.S. Department of Education's December 2016 decision to revoke ACICS accreditation recognition. Jones College ceased operations on December 31, 2017, with its final classes held in August 2017.
