Johnson University Florida offered a diverse curriculum across seven schools: Arts & Sciences, Bible & Theology, Business & Public Leadership, Christian Ministries, Communication & Creative Arts, Social & Behavioral Sciences, and Education. All students were required to complete a core of Bible and theology classes alongside their chosen major. The institution offered certificates, Associate of Arts, Associate of Applied Science, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, and Master of Strategic Ministry degrees. The university was nationally accredited by the Association for Biblical Higher Education since 1985 and regionally accredited by SACS from 1995–2012, then again after acquisition by Johnson University in 2013.
The institution was founded in 1975 as Central Florida Bible College and relocated to its main campus in 1986, adopting the name Florida Christian College. Financial challenges intensified during the Great Recession; SACS revoked accreditation in December 2012, though a federal court injunction restored probationary status in March 2013. Johnson University purchased the Florida campus in 2013, incorporating it into its system. Despite a turnaround plan launched in 2021, enrollment failed to recover, leading to the announcement in July 2023 that the campus would close on June 30, 2024. Osceola County purchased the campus property in April 2024.
The athletic teams, known as the Suns, competed in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division II South Region as an independent. The university fielded five varsity sports: men's basketball and soccer, and women's basketball, soccer, and volleyball. The men's baseball team achieved notable success, earning second place in the 2012 NCCAA D-II National Championship and third place in 2013. The men's basketball team won the NCCAA D-II South Regional Championship in 2012 and 2020.
