JCCC offers undergraduate credit courses forming the first two years of most college curricula, with average class sizes of 25–30 students. The college maintains over 100 transfer agreements ensuring admittance without loss of time or credit to regional institutions. More than 50 one- and two-year career degree and certificate programs prepare students for high-employment fields, with nine selective-admission programs available. The college employs 926 full-time faculty and staff, most holding master's degrees, supplemented by 1,451 adjunct and part-time personnel.
JCCC operates an open-admissions policy requiring application submission, official transcripts, and completion of an assessment process. Students may register for classes online. The main campus spans 200 acres at College Boulevard and Quivira Road in Overland Park. Notable facilities include the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art (41,000 sq ft, opened 2007), Wylie Hospitality and Culinary Academy (2013), Galileo's Pavilion (2012), Hugh Libby Career and Technical Education Center, Fine Arts and Design Studios, Performing Arts Center, and Regnier Center. The college also operates a railroad training center in partnership with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway.
The Johnson County Cavaliers compete in the NJCAA and Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference, representing the college across multiple sports.
