Montana State's business school offering undergraduate and graduate degrees in accounting, finance, management, and entrepreneurship.
The college offers a Bachelor of Science in Business with four option areas: accounting, finance, management, and marketing. Five minors are available: accounting, business administration, entrepreneurship and small business management, finance, and international business. At the graduate level, the college offers a one-year Master of Professional Accountancy (MPAc) and a one-year Master of Science in Innovation and Management (MSIM). The college is accredited through the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and operates on a semester system as part of Montana State University.
In 2018, the incoming freshman class had an average high school GPA of 3.27 and average ACT score of 23. The college supports ten student organizations including the American Marketing Association, Beta Alpha Psi/Accounting Club, Enactus, and Women in Business. In AY2018, 94% of undergraduates reported full or part-time employment or continuing education, while 100% of MPAc graduates reported employment or continuing education immediately after graduation. During fall 2018, 66 student athletes were enrolled, competing in sports including Alpine skiing, basketball, football, golf, rodeo, and volleyball.
The business division was established in 1893 when the Agricultural College of the State of Montana (now Montana State University) was founded. The curriculum evolved from basic bookkeeping and commercial courses to a professional business program. In 1981, the School of Business received accreditation. In October 2011, MSU alumnus Jake Jabs, president and CEO of American Furniture Warehouse, donated $25 million—then the largest private gift in Montana higher education history. The school was renamed the Jake Jabs College of Business & Entrepreneurship in 2013, with $18.5 million of the gift funding the construction of Jabs Hall.
