Academics
IPGMER offers comprehensive medical education across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. Programs include MBBS (undergraduate), MD/MS and DM/MCh (postgraduate), postdoctoral courses, and PhD programs. The institution also conducts nursing courses at undergraduate and school levels, physiotherapy courses, and paramedical specialties. All postgraduate courses follow MCI-recommended curriculum. The institute emphasizes research training and methodology alongside clinical excellence.
Mission & Vision
The institute aims to train medical undergraduates, graduates, and postgraduates to become future public healthcare providers, teachers, and research workers. It fosters research in fundamental and applied medical problems, encourages development of medical specialties in coordinated fashion, and arranges refresher courses for practitioners. The institution coordinates resources across West Bengal hospitals to advance medical sciences and provide research facilities.
Hospital & Clinical Services
IPGMER operates SSKM Hospital and six annex facilities providing multi-super speciality care. Services include outdoor clinics, special clinics, major and minor operation theatres, inpatient cabins, and organ transplant facilities. The hospital maintains NABL accreditation and has achieved National Quality Certification under LaQshya Programme. Departments span 30+ specialties including Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Diseases, Emergency Medicine, and Neonatology.
Admissions
MBBS admissions for 2025-30 are conducted through All-India and West Bengal state quotas via Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). MD/MS and DM/MCh admissions also follow national guidelines. Admission fee is Rs. 6,500 (with Rs. 1,000 non-refundable admission component). Candidates must report to the Student Section at the Academic Building, 244 A.J.C. Bose Road, Kolkata 700020. Research & Innovation
The institute maintains active research oversight through dedicated committees including Research Oversight Committee, Research Advisory Committee, Institutional Biosafety Committee, and Institutional Ethics Committee for Research. It publishes the Annals of Medical Science and Research (AMSR) journal and offers online medical education through video lectures and integrated seminars. Research initiatives include rare disease crowdfunding portal participation and development of innovative diagnostics.
