The Institute of Management Studies is a department of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, a public university in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
Babu Shiv Prasad Gupt and Bhagwan Das established the university in Varanasi on 10 February 1921, during the non-cooperation movement of the freedom struggle. The university was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi, and Bhagwan Das served as its first vice-chancellor. It was accorded Deemed University status by the UGC in 1963 and became a statutory university on 15 January 1974. It was renamed Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith in 1995.
The university's vision is to foster the goals of nation building as a peaceful, democratic, secular and egalitarian society through scientific and modern education. Its mission is to provide high quality education and research facilities to students in a conducive environment for their personality growth.
The university offers professional and academic courses in Arts, Science, Commerce, Law, Computing and Management. The university has earned B++ status from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.
The Institute of Management Studies is located at the Gangapur, Varanasi campus, listed as Bhairav Talab Campus. Facilities listed include the Dr. Bhagwandas Central Library, University Sports Council sports facilities, and hostels named after Acharya Narendradev, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, Lal Bahadur Shastri, and a J.K. Women's Hostel.
