INRS is a Quebec institution focused on graduate-level education and interdisciplinary research in science, technology and society.
INRS aims to train the next generation of researchers capable of scientific, social and technological innovation. It finds solutions through interdisciplinary research in collaboration with its partners. The institution contributes to the economic, social and cultural development of Quebec.
INRS offers graduate-level education at the master's and doctoral levels. Identifying a research director is an essential prerequisite to admission. Most master's and doctoral programs require that a professor agrees to supervise the student before the application is completed. INRS offers autumn, winter and summer admission terms, and students may complete part of their studies at another Quebec university through an inter-university agreement.
INRS research is organized around five thematic areas: water, earth and environment; energy, materials and telecommunications; health and biotechnology; urbanization, culture and society; and sustainable rurality. Its research centres include the Centre Eau Terre Environnement, Centre Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications, Centre Armand-Frappier Santé Biotechnologie, Centre Ruralités durables and Centre Urbanisation Culture Société. The Centre Ruralités durables is located in Baie-Saint-Paul, and the Centre Urbanisation Culture Société is located in Montreal.
Applications are submitted online through the IDÉ portal and require payment of admission fees by credit card. Applicants must provide contact details for three people who know their training and research aptitudes. Students from INRS or the Université du Québec network are exempt from admission fees.
