Indian River State College offers over 100 programs spanning associate degrees, bachelor's degrees, technical certificates, and applied technology diplomas. Academic disciplines include education, nursing, business, public safety, healthcare management, engineering, and skilled trades. The college launched The River Online in 2013 to expand access through distance learning. In 2022, the college introduced the Promise Program, providing tuition-free enrollment for local high school graduates pursuing associate degrees. The college also operates the Clark Advanced Learning Center, a charter high school offering dual enrollment opportunities.
The college operates five campuses totaling over 362 acres at the main Fort Pierce location. Facilities include the Brown Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Kight Center for Emerging Technologies, Mary L. Fields Health Science Center, Hallstrom Planetarium, and the 50-acre Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex. Student life features over 60 clubs and organizations, 1,600+ annual activities, and honor societies including Phi Theta Kappa and Kappa Delta Pi. On-campus housing is available through The River Hammock Student Housing complex. The college also operates three public radio stations: WQCS (88.9 FM, NPR affiliate), WFLM (91.1 FM), and WQCP (88.5 FM).
Indian River State College maintains an open admission policy with minimal thresholds, admitting all applicants who meet basic requirements. The college does not report high school GPA, SAT, or ACT data for admitted students. The Promise Program offers tuition-free enrollment for qualifying local high school graduates. The college serves diverse student populations, with 51% first-generation college students and 91% of graduates graduating debt-free.
The River's athletic teams, known as the Pioneers, compete in the Southern Conference of the Florida State College Activities Association (FSCAA). The college is nationally renowned for swimming and diving excellence: the men's team holds 50 consecutive NJCAA national championships while the women's team has won 46 titles, representing the longest championship streak in U.S. collegiate sports history. Additional sports include men's baseball and basketball, and women's softball and volleyball. In 2019, the college received the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence. The college is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
