IIIT Agartala is a public-private partnership institute in Tripura focused on information technology education, research, and training.
IIIT Agartala is one of the IIITs established on a Not-for-profit Public-Private Partnership basis by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. It is a joint venture of three founding partners: the Ministry of Education, the Government of Tripura, and industry partners. The institute's Visitor is the President of India.
The institute was established in 2018. The Indian Institutes of Information Technology (Public-Private Partnership) Act was enacted in 2017. IIIT Agartala was declared an Institute of National Importance on 4 February 2020 by an Act of Parliament.
The institute focuses on higher education, research, and training in Information Technology and allied disciplines. It offers a 4-year B.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering with an intake of 100 seats. Admission to the B.Tech programme is via JEE Mains and JoSAA. Students engage in faculty-guided research with publications in reputed journals and conferences.
The institute is currently operating from its temporary campus at mentor institute NIT Agartala. All classes, laboratories, hostels, and library facilities are provided to IIIT Agartala students on the NIT Agartala campus.
