IIT Indore operates 14 departments across multiple schools: School of Basic Sciences, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Engineering, Mehta Family School of Biosciences and Biomedical Engineering, Mehta Family School of Sustainability, and School of Innovation. Departments include Astronomy & Astrophysics, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering & Materials Science, Physics, and Humanities & Social Sciences. The institute offers undergraduate (B.Tech), postgraduate (M.Tech), and doctoral (PhD) programs, along with specialized certificate programs.
The permanent campus spans 501.42 acres at Simrol, approximately 25 km from Indore city center. Facilities include a Central Library (Learning Resource Center), health center, guest house, counseling services, hostels, central dining facility, computer and information technology center, daycare, central workshop, makerspace laboratory, and transport services. The campus also houses the Sophisticated Instrumentation Center (SIC) as a national facility and the IITI Advanced Centre for Entrepreneurship (ACE).
Admissions to B.Tech programs are conducted through JEE (Advanced) and JOSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority). The institute also offers sports excellence admission for B.Tech programs. Postgraduate programs and specialized certificate programs (such as AICTE-QIP sponsored programs) have separate admission pathways. The 14th Convocation is scheduled for June 27, 2026.
The institute emphasizes research through multiple centers and initiatives including the Sophisticated Instrumentation Center (SIC), IITI Advanced Centre for Entrepreneurship (ACE), Centre for Futuristic Defense and Space Technology (CFDST), and Drishti CPS. Faculty members have received national and international recognition, including Springer Nature Editor of Distinction Award, IEEE Computer Society Distinguished Contributor Award, and MRSI Medal.
