Academics
IIT (BHU) offers undergraduate programs in 12 engineering disciplines (Computer Science, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Electronics, Chemical, Ceramic, Metallurgical, Mining, Pharmaceutical, Architecture/Planning/Design) plus three science departments (Chemistry, Mathematical Sciences, Physics) and specialized schools in Biochemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Decision Science & Engineering, and Materials Science & Technology. Postgraduate programs include M.Tech., M.Pharm., and Ph.D. across multiple departments. The institute emphasizes modern pedagogical approaches, interdisciplinary curricula aligned with industry needs, and research-oriented education.
Campus & Infrastructure
The institute maintains 16 residential hostels including dedicated facilities for women (Nivedita Girls Hostel, S.C. De. Girls Hostel). Central facilities include a Supercomputing Center, Central Instrument Facility, Precision Engineering Hub, Centre for Faculty Development & Educational Technology, Shreenivas Deshpande Library, Main Workshop, and Gandhi Technology Alumni Centre. Additional centers support innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability including the Jay Chaudhry Software Innovation Centre, I3F (Section 8 Company), and Sustainable Development Centre.
Admissions
Undergraduate admissions are conducted through JEE (Advanced). Postgraduate admissions for M.Tech., M.Pharm., and Ph.D. programs occur through online portals; M.Tech. admissions utilize COAP 2025 and GATE cutoff scores. For 2026-27 odd semester, PG applications were accepted from March 20 to April 13, 2026. Fee refunds (minus Rs. 10,000 seat retention) are available upon withdrawal with proper documentation.
Research & Innovation
The institute is committed to innovative, fundamental, and interdisciplinary research addressing societal and national problems. Key research units include the Design Innovation Centre, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, IRMA (Centre of Excellence), and multiple collaborative centers. The institute regularly publishes in leading international journals, maintains sponsored and consultancy projects, and holds patents. International collaborations and MOUs with global institutions strengthen research capabilities.
