About
IHM Chennai is a public institute located at 4th Cross Street, C.I.T Campus, TTTI, Taramani, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It was established by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, in 1963 and is sponsored by the Government of Tamil Nadu and India. The institute is tucked in the city of Chennai and has a lush green campus.
Mission
The institute aims to strive for excellence today to prepare students to succeed in a challenging world tomorrow. Its vision is to train students in accordance with international standards of hospitality education by imparting knowledge, skill and attitude. This prepares students for suitable manpower and opportunities in research and field work in the hospitality and tourism industry.
Academics
The institute offers a 3-year B.Sc. in Hospitality & Hotel Administration and a 2-year M.Sc. in Hospitality Administration. It also offers 1.5-year diploma programmes in Food Production & Patisserie and in Bakery & Confectionary. Undergraduate admission is through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) followed by online counselling on merit at the All India level by NCHMCT, Noida and IGNOU, New Delhi.
Campus & Facilities
The campus includes a basketball court and an auditorium with a capacity of 350-400 students at a time. The institute has two boys hostels with more than 100 rooms in total capacity. A doctor is available on campus three days each week for students' medical needs.
