About
The Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS) is an autonomous body registered under the Societies Act 1860. It is funded jointly by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, and the Government of NCT of Delhi. The Minister for Health, Govt. of NCT of Delhi is the President of the institute, and the Chief Secretary, Govt. of NCT of Delhi is the Chairman of the Executive Council. The institute's address is Post Box No 9520, Jhilmil, Dilshad Garden, Delhi-110095, India.
History
IHBAS was established in 1993 in compliance with the directives of the Hon'ble Supreme Court, in response to a public interest litigation.
Mission and Academics
The institute aims to provide high quality super specialty health care using state-of-the-art technology in mental health, neurosciences, and behavioural and allied sciences. It also aims to conduct research of high standard in these fields. For academics, it aims to provide comprehensive training for MD, DM, M.Phil. and Ph.D courses. Its vision is to be one of the leaders in the country and the world for promoting these fields, including developing a future group of professional and para-professional leaders through formal and semi-formal training programs. The M.Phil Clinical Psychology course is currently on hold.
Campus & Facilities
The campus includes inpatient wards for Psychiatry, Neurology and Neurosurgery, along with emergency wards and ICUs for Psychiatry and Neurology, and an ICU and ward for Neurosurgery. Listed clinics include Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Tobacco Cessation, Drug Abuse Treatment & Rehabilitation, Epilepsy, and Pain Relief & Pre-Anaesthetic Check up. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta laid the foundation stone for a new, modern OPD building at IHBAS.
