Private evangelical seminary offering graduate theological degrees, now part of Kairos University.
HGST offered six graduate degree programs: Master of Divinity (M.Div.), Master of Arts in Counseling (MAC), Master of Arts in Christian Ministry (MACM), Master of Theological Studies (MTS), Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.), and Doctor of Professional Counseling (DPC). The school trained students from more than 30 denominational traditions, reflecting its multidenominational mission.
Founded in 1983 by Dr. Delbert Vaughn and his wife Carol, HGST was initially housed in the Texas Medical Center and affiliated with the Evangelical Friends Church for its first 15 years. The school relocated multiple times, moving to the Adams Petroleum Building in 1987, Central Congregational Church in 1996, and Willow Meadows Baptist Church campus in 2013. In 2021, Dr. Becky Towne became the fifth and final president, and the institution merged with Kairos University as a Legacy Partner in 2023.
HGST was accredited by the Commission on Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada (ATS), though this accreditation was discontinued by 2024. The school was affiliated with the Evangelical Friends Church and later became a founding member of Kairos University in 2021.
