Hostos offers 27 associate-level degrees across 10 academic departments: Allied Health, Behavioral and Social Sciences, Business, Education, English, Humanities, Language & Cognition, Library, Mathematics, and Natural Sciences. The college is notable for being the first and only CUNY campus offering a degree in Game Design. Approximately 60% of the student population is Hispanic, and the college provides extensive bilingual instruction in Spanish alongside English and ESL programs. The campus features a $1.05 million live recording studio used by media design programs.
The urban campus spans multiple buildings connected by a pedestrian walkway over Grand Concourse. The Hostos Center for the Arts & Culture includes a museum-grade art gallery, a 367-seat Repertory Theater, and a 900-seat Main Theater presenting national and international artists. Student services include a library, computer labs, bookstore, children's center, health and wellness center, and career services. The college is accessible via the 149th Street-Grand Concourse subway station (2, 4, 5 trains) and multiple bus routes.
Hostos teams compete as members of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) community college section since 2002–03. Men's sports include basketball and soccer; women's sports include basketball and volleyball. In 2020, the college announced entry into the NJCAA Esports league beginning the 2020–2021 season. The college mascot is the Caiman.
Fall 2018 enrollment was 7,340 predominantly full-time students. The student body is 57.2% Hispanic, 21.2% Black Non-Hispanic, 17.6% Other/Unknown, 2.2% Asian & Pacific Islander, 1.3% White Non-Hispanic, and 0.4% American Indian & Alaskan Native. Approximately 67% of students are female and 33% male, with an average age of 25. The college offers support programs including ASAP, College Discovery, CSTEP, CUNY Start, tutoring, writing center services, and student success coaching.
Hostos is affiliated with Hostos Lincoln Academy of Science, a middle and high school (grades 6–12) with an early college program serving students in the South Bronx. High school students can earn up to 60 college credits and graduate with both a high school diploma and associate degree. The college also operates a location at the Bronx Terminal Market and offers continuing education and workforce development programs.
