About
Hooghly Women's College is located at 1, Vivekananda Road, Pipulpati P.O. & Dist. Hooghly - 712103. It is affiliated to The University of Burdwan. The college's vision is "We Enlighten; We Enrich; We Empower".
History
The college is described as the first women's college established in Hooghly district through the efforts of local educationists, most notably Sri Nripendranath Dhar. The initial effort to found it was made in 1943. Classes of the first year started on 1st August 1949 with 41 students and four teachers in the small building of Mission House. The first Principal was Sri Kalipada Mitra. From 1952, students were permitted to appear in the University examination (Calcutta) for IA and B.A. In 1960, The University of Burdwan was established, and the college's affiliation was transferred from Calcutta University to Burdwan University. Dr. Sumita Bajpai served as Principal from 2000 to 2014.
Academics
The college opened its science faculty in 1960. It is the first women's college of the district and the largest Women's College of Burdwan University. The college has 7 departments with Honours and over 1000 students. Undergraduate admission is offered in BA (4 year) and BA (3 year) courses, with Music available as a Major subject.
Campus & Facilities

During Dr. Sima Banerjee's tenure, the college installed solar panels and implemented rainwater harvesting systems.
