Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary offers a four-year Bachelor of Theology degree, a three-year Master of Divinity program (begun in 2018), a two-year Certificate in Pastoral Studies, and a two-year Certificate of Theological Studies for independent study. Instruction is provided in both English and Russian, with the seminary emphasizing spiritual formation alongside intellectual rigor. The curriculum prepares students for service as clergy, monastics, choir directors, cantors, iconographers, and lay leaders within the Orthodox Church.
The seminary shares its campus with Holy Trinity Monastery in rural Herkimer County, New York, one mile north of Jordanville in the historic Mohawk Valley. Students participate actively in the monastery's liturgical and spiritual life, gaining firsthand experience of Orthodox Christian tradition. The seminary maintains a library of nearly 48,000 cataloged volumes with significant holdings in Russian and Slavic studies, as well as archives documenting Russian emigration and Orthodox history. A printing press produces religious periodicals in Russian and English.
All applicants must be members of a canonical Orthodox Church jurisdiction; on-campus degree candidates must have been Orthodox members for a minimum of two years. Required documents include official transcripts, a recommendation from a spiritual father, a diocesan bishop's blessing (for degree programs), medical examination records, and a $40 application fee. Non-native English speakers must pass the TOEFL exam with minimum scores of 76 (undergraduate) or 96 (graduate). The seminary welcomes applicants from the United States and abroad.
Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary is chartered by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York. The institution was previously accredited by the New York State Commissioner for Education until May 2023. In 2025, the seminary achieved Candidate Status for accreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
