A defunct private engineering college that served Boeing employees in Washington from 1979 to 2006.
Henry Cogswell College was founded in 1979 in Kirkland, Washington as Cogswell College North, initially operating as an affiliate of Cogswell College in Sunnyvale, California. The institution was established primarily to provide engineering education to local Boeing employees. The college operated evening and summer classes at Shoreline Community College before relocating to south Kirkland. In 1996, it moved to Everett, positioning itself near Boeing's largest assembly plant, and eventually occupied the historic Federal Building in downtown Everett after a $2 million renovation in 2000.
The college offered bachelor's degrees across seven disciplines: business administration, computer science, digital arts, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, and professional management. Off-campus classes were also held at a Boeing facility in the south Puget Sound region to serve students in that area, with limited classes continuing there even after the main campus relocated to Everett.
Henry Cogswell College closed on September 1, 2006, following a significant decline in enrollment and mounting financial deficits. The institution's reliance on Boeing-related tuition and the broader economic shifts in the region contributed to its inability to sustain operations.
