HCC is a two-year public community college offering both transfer and career-oriented programs, as well as continuing education classes. The college offers more than 100 programs of study and awards associate degrees, certificates, and letters of recognition. Academic divisions include Behavioral & Social Sciences, English & Humanities, Health Sciences, Mathematics & Science, Nursing, and Business & Technology. The college also provides construction trades/apprenticeships, adult literacy services, and workforce solutions through continuing education.
The main campus spans 319 acres on Robinwood Drive, approximately 2.5 miles southeast of downtown Hagerstown and easily accessible from Interstates 81 and 70. The campus encompasses eighteen buildings and features a business incubator, outdoor gardens, and an amphitheater. A secondary facility, the Bowman Training Center, is located at 562 Northern Avenue. Student services include a fitness center, student pantry, campus store, food services, student activities, and organizations. The college maintains an active athletics program and provides academic support, health and wellness services, and specialized advising.
HCC offers straightforward admission pathways including regular admission for credit students, transfer credit evaluation, and credit for prior learning. The college also provides specialized programs such as Early College, Construction Trades/Apprenticeships, Adult Education & English Language (PALS), and Summer Youth Programming. Admissions representatives are available by appointment Monday 8:30 a.m.–6:00 p.m. and Tuesday–Friday 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. The application process requires submission of official transcripts, completion of financial aid applications, account activation, and placement testing.
Since its first graduation in 1948 (awarding 25 degrees), HCC has graduated more than 175,000 students. The college provides comprehensive career development services including career exploration, internship programs, job search resources, resume and cover letter development, and interview preparation. Career Development Services operates by appointment weekdays 9:30 a.m.–3 p.m. and hosts career expos, career readiness workshops, and a Navigating Life After Graduation conference to support student transitions to employment or further education.
