CUNY's newest community college, pioneering innovative student success models in Midtown Manhattan.
Guttman offers associate degree programs in accounting, business administration, cybersecurity, health information technology, human services, information technology, liberal arts, science, secondary education (social studies), and urban studies. The college features an innovative academic model designed from scratch to improve completion rates, including a Bridge program, learning communities, a modified quarter system (12/6), guided pathways, and integrated advising and tutoring. The curriculum emphasizes experiential learning, internships, and capstone experiences within New York City.
The vertical campus is located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan at 50 West 40th Street, directly across from Bryant Park and the New York Public Library's main branch. Students have access to multiple subway lines (B, D, F, M, 7 trains) and local/express buses. The college provides a library, tutoring services, counseling and wellness resources, peer mentoring, and the HUB Information Center. As the #1 CUNY college for paid internship participation, students gain real-world career experience.
Guttman maintains an open admissions policy for applicants with a high school diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency. Uniquely, all applicants must attend a group information session and complete one-on-one interviews with counselors before enrollment. Applications are submitted through the CUNY application portal. Transfer students are welcome and receive in-person credit evaluations. The college does not currently admit international students requiring F-1 or J-1 visas.
The college confers over 200 degrees annually at its commencement ceremony. Guttman's innovative model was designed to address the 15% three-year graduation rate typical of urban community colleges. The college emphasizes timely degree completion and transfer to four-year institutions, with articulation agreements in place (e.g., with Medgar Evers College for accounting).
