A state government veterinary and animal sciences university established in 2005 at Ludhiana, Punjab.
Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) is a public state government university. It was established at Ludhiana by an act of the Punjab Legislature, No. 16 of 2005, notified in the Punjab Government Gazette on August 9, 2005. The university is located in Ludhiana, Punjab, and its registrar's office is based there.
The university started functioning with effect from April 21, 2006. It was established to promote livestock production, health, and prevention of diseases through integrated teaching, research, and extension programmes.
Stated goals include providing an adequate supply of trained veterinary professionals, including Master's and Doctorate level specialists. The university also aims to undertake research in selected areas using a multidisciplinary approach. It runs referral hospitals for specialized treatment and provides clinical training to students. Consultancy and specialist services are offered to livestock owners, government, semi-government, and allied agencies.
The university has a College of Veterinary Science at Rampura Phul and a Veterinary Polytechnic at Kaljharani. It also has a Centre of One Health. The campus includes a Multi Speciality Veterinary Hospital, a University Library, Girls Hostel, Kisan Hostel, and Scientist Home. Campus-wide local area network and internet connectivity, along with athletics and fitness sports facilities, are available.
The university operates Regional Research and Training Centres (RRTC) at Kaljharani (Bathinda) and Talwara (Hoshiarpur). It also has a Multi-Specialty Veterinary Hospital and RRTC at Sappanwali, Abohar (Fazilka).
