Historic boys' military boarding school in West Virginia, founded 1812 and closed 1972.
Greenbrier Military School was established in 1812 as a private, boys-only military boarding institution in Lewisburg, West Virginia. The school operated for 160 years, offering high school and junior college education with a military discipline framework. Its motto was "Truth, Duty, Honor." The school closed in 1972, and its campus was subsequently converted into the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.
The school produced notable graduates including two West Virginia governors (Homer A. Holt and Jim Justice), a Major League Baseball pitcher (Sheriff Blake), and various business and civic leaders. In the early 2000s, alumni established the Greenbrier Cadet Program in partnership with Fork Union Military Academy to honor the school's values. The alumni association continues to fund scholarships at the osteopathic college occupying the former campus and supports graduating seniors from local high schools.
