Government Arts College(Autonomous) is a public institution in Salem, established in 1901. Government Arts College (Autonomous), Salem-7 is one of the oldest and most prestigious public institutions in Tamil Nadu, established in 1879. It is an autonomous college affiliated to Periyar University and was granted autonomous status in 2007. The college offers 20 UG, 19 PG, 10 M.Phil and 10 Ph.D. programmes across arts and science streams, with a student strength of over 5,400.
