History
The college was established in 1996 by Dr. G. Kathamuthu, the Founder Chairman. The promoting Suganthi Educational Trust was established in 1993. The four year B.E. degree course in Marine Engineering was started in the academic year 2006-07. The trust's stated vision is to impart high quality education and training of exemplary academic standards to deserving students of rural as well as urban areas.
Academics
The college is approved by AICTE and affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. It offers 10 UG, 14 PG and 3 Ph.D programmes. The college holds memberships with ISTE, CII, MMA and IEEE. Admission routes include merit-based admission to Year I based on minimum HSC aggregate marks, lateral entry for Diploma and B.Sc. qualified candidates, MCA and MCA lateral entry, and MBA admission. A Centre for Higher Studies has been part of the college's placement activities since its inception in 2001.
Campus & Facilities
The campus is spread over nearly 10 acres of land. The college is located 5 km off Tambaram on the Chennai-Chengalpet National Highway (NH45). Facilities include separate hostels for boys and girls with 24 x 7 security, boys and girls messes, a health centre, playground, gymnasium, internet centre and campus-wide free WiFi. Computer and engineering labs, conference halls and a seminar hall are also available. The college has a prometric centre and conducts Microsoft and Oracle certification examinations.
Recognition
The college is ISO 9001:2008 certified and NBA and NAAC 'A' Grade accredited. The 26 weeks afloat training for Marine Engineering students is offered on campus through the ship GKM KAMAASHI, which has approval from the Directorate General of Shipping, Mumbai.
