GEM Hospital's journey began in 1991 as the Coimbatore Institute of Gastrointestinal Endo-Surgery. The hospital is located at 45, Pankaja Mills Rd, Palaniappa Nagar, Sowripalayam Pirivu, Ramanathapuram, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu - 641045. History and Leadership
Prof. Dr. C. Palanivelu was the first to introduce laparoscopic surgery in south India. He is the Chairman of GEM Hospitals. He was conferred the Dr. B.C. Roy National Award in 2006 and 2015, and was the first Indian to win a Silver Medal in the International Olympic Minimal Access Surgery competition. He was also accorded the title of "Beeshmacharya" by his peers.
