GCS Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre is located at Opp. DRM Office, Naroda Road, Ahmedabad - 380016, Gujarat, India. The college's vision is to be a premier medical college and state-of-the-art multispecialty hospital with world-class research facilities. Its mission is to offer medical education and create a continuous stream of trained medical professionals who provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive healthcare at an affordable cost.
History
GCS Foundation, formerly known as the Gujarat Cancer Society, is a 50-year-old pioneer charitable trust working to fight cancer with the help of the Government of Gujarat. The Government of Gujarat handed over the New Swadeshi Mills compound land, approximately 25 acres, in September 2009. The college was inaugurated in 2011 in collaboration with the Government of Gujarat and was dedicated to the public by Shri Narendra Modi in August 2011. The first MBBS batch commenced in 2012, and the first batch of MBBS students graduated in 2017.
Academics
The college offers MBBS with an annual intake of 200 students and is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC). It is affiliated with Gujarat University. The National Board of Examinations (NBE) accredits the college, which runs DrNB courses in 3 super-specialties. MBBS admissions are made through the Admission Committee for Professional PG/UG Medical Educational Courses across all quotas.
Campus & Facilities
The campus is built on 25 acres on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model by GCS Foundation. Facilities include a central library with more than 12,000 books, a dedicated medical education unit, and departments with state-of-the-art laboratories. Other facilities listed include an auditorium, exam hall, lecture halls, hostel, staff quarters, gymkhana, indoor games, playground, and cafeteria. GCS Hospital is a NABH accredited 750-bed multi-speciality hospital, and a dedicated medical research centre, GCS Centre Research Unit, was inaugurated in 2024.
Recognition
The Central Clinical Laboratory is accredited by NABL under ISO 15189:2022. The college is fully accredited by NABH in both its 5th and 6th Editions. GCS Hospital is empanelled with the Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY Scheme to provide free treatment to beneficiaries.
