History
G.Raghunatha Reddy Educational Trust was established in 2000 by like-minded professionals and NRIs who wanted to contribute to the growth of their region. Under the aegis of the Trust, GATES Institute of Technology was established in 2001 in Gooty Ananthapuramu (village), Ananthapur District. The institution started with an intake of 150 students in 2001 and has grown to a current intake of 930 students. Nearly 3750 students have graduated from GATES so far.
About
The institute first started with undergraduate engineering courses and later added postgraduate programs in Engineering and Management Sciences. Its mission is to impart the best technical and management education instilled with discipline, values and leadership qualities that will produce professional technocrats. The institute aims to contribute to the social and economic development of the drought-prone rural region through professional education. The principal, Dr. P. Namratha, states that the institution is marking its Silver Jubilee.
Academics
The institute is approved by AICTE and has permanent affiliation to Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Anantapur (JNTUA). It is accredited with NBA and holds an A Grade from NAAC. GATES has achieved Autonomous status. Admission routes include Four Year B.Tech through APEAPCET merit (70% of intake) and management quota (30% of intake), lateral entry into II Year B.Tech for diploma holders, and MBA through ICET (70% of intake) and management quota (30% of intake).

The institute is located on N H-44 in Gootyanantapuram (Village), Gooty, Anantapuram District, Andhra Pradesh, India. GATES was a pioneer in setting up an institution completely run by solar power and aims to be a role model for a green and eco-friendly campus. Facilities listed include classrooms and laboratories, indoor and outdoor auditoriums, a central library, departmental libraries, a digital library, a reading hall, boys and girls hostels, and hostel dining. The institution also conducts medical, blood donation, and eye camps for people in nearby villages.
