Florida Career College was a subsidiary of International Education Corporation (IEC), which was founded in 1982 as United Electronics Institute. The college operated as a for-profit career institution offering short-term vocational training programs. In April 2023, the U.S. Department of Education began denying the college access to federal financial aid, alleging that it improperly allowed students without a high school diploma or equivalent to test into eligibility for aid. The college announced closure by February 15, 2024, though it remained open to allow students to complete their programs.
Florida Career College offered short-term career training programs in high-demand fields including healthcare, skilled trades, business, and criminal justice. As a for-profit institution, it focused on preparing students with practical knowledge and skills for immediate employment in specific career paths rather than traditional academic disciplines.
The college faced significant regulatory challenges. In April 2023, the Department of Education cut off its access to Title IV federal student aid after determining the institution had improperly allowed students without high school diplomas or equivalent credentials to test into federal aid eligibility. Following a 2024 settlement, IEC CEO Fardad Fateri and CFO Sanjay Sardana agreed never to be employed by an IEC-related entity receiving Title IV federal aid.
