Fergusson College is located at F.C. Road, Pune 411004, in the heart of Pune city. The college is affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune. Its vision is to carry forward the founders' vision of providing affordable quality education. The college's motto is "Knowledge is Power".
History
The founders first started the New English School, Pune in 1880. They later established the Deccan Education Society (DES) in 1884. In 1891, the DES acquired a plot of about 37 acres on a 99-year lease, and the college started functioning on its campus in 1895. Sir James Fergusson, Governor of Bombay and the first patron of the Society, was asked to lend his name to the college.
Campus & Facilities
The campus is described as 60 acres. The Main Building was inaugurated on 27 March 1895 by Lord Sandhurst, Governor of Bombay. The Bai Jerbai Wadia Library's first floor reading hall can accommodate around 400 students at a time. Facilities listed include boys' and girls' hostels with medical consultation, mess, CCTV and security, water supply and purifiers, solar water heating in ladies' hostels, and a departmental library.
Admissions
Admission routes include the PG Entrance Examination for M.A./M.Sc. programmes, merit-based admission for F.Y.B.A., B.Sc. and B.Voc. courses (grant-in-aid and self-financed), lateral entry, admission for international students in S.Y. and T.Y., and diploma and certificate courses.
