A Montreal-based university-level evangelical theological training centre, affiliated with Acadia Divinity College of Acadia University.
The Faculté de Théologie Évangélique is located at 100-945 avenue Beaumont, Montréal, Quebec H3N 1W3. It is affiliated with Acadia Divinity College of Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, and is recognized by the Quebec Ministry of Higher Education. The Faculty aims to serve the evangelical church in Quebec, not only Baptist churches.
The Faculty was founded in 1982 on the initiative of the Union d'églises Baptistes Francophones du Canada. The first courses were offered that summer on rue Ontario by the Centre d'études théologiques évangéliques. In September 1994 the institution changed its name from CETE to Faculté de Théologie évangélique, and that year it added its B.Th. program, two certificates (biblical and helping relationship), and a master's degree in theology. In May 1999 the Faculty awarded its first two M.Th. degrees, granted by Acadia University. The building on avenue Papineau was acquired in 1986 to house the Union's offices and the Faculty's premises. The Faculty has been officially a corporation since 15 February 2006.
The Faculty aims to develop and offer theological training at university level, rooted in Scripture and compatible with the evangelical and Reformed tradition. Its training covers biblical studies, systematic theology, church history, pastoral disciplines, and helping relationships. It seeks to meet the needs of evangelical confessional diversity by offering confessional streams within its training programs, while maintaining the unity of the Body of Christ.
The Faculty offers a physical library and a digital library. Dr. Maurice Boillat, former general secretary of the Union and first professor of homiletics, is credited with interesting the Faculty of Theology of Acadia University in the project.
