Elmezzi Graduate School offers a specialized three-year PhD degree program in Molecular Medicine designed for physicians seeking to understand disease mechanisms and develop diagnostic and therapeutic solutions. Founded in 1994 by the Picower Institute, the school was acquired and revived in 2001 by North Shore-LIJ Institute for Medical Research. It received its current name in 2008 following a $15 million donation from the Thomas and Jeanne Elmezzi Private Foundation, with an additional $10 million endowment gift in 2019.
The school is accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission and holds Candidate for Accreditation Status with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). It operates under the umbrella of Northwell Health and collaborates with the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research.
