Edgecombe Community College offers more than 130 academic degree programs, diplomas, and certificates across multiple disciplines. The college operates two campuses: the main 120-acre campus in Tarboro with 11 buildings, and a separate campus in Rocky Mount. In 2016, the college opened a 45,000 square foot Biotechnology and Medical Simulation Center to support advanced technical education.
The college serves a diverse student body of approximately 2,151 students, with 75% female and 25% male enrollment. More than half of students come from outside the county, reflecting the college's regional draw. The college offers a Travel Abroad Program that enables students and staff to travel to international destinations including France, Spain, Italy, and Scotland.
Edgecombe Community College was established in 1967 as an extension unit of Wilson County Technical Institute, holding its first classes in August 1968. The institution was renamed Edgecombe Community College in 1987 and has since expanded significantly. In 2018, Gregory McLeod became the college's first Black president, succeeding Deborah Lamm.
