The École du Barreau's mission is to provide professional training to future lawyers, preparing them for the first years of practice and for obtaining the practice licence. The professionalization program is presented in 3 blocks. The first block, Apprentissages spécifiques, consists of three training sectors, each concluded by an examination. The program includes a mandatory experiential clinical phase, described as a unique initiative in North America, and a six-month internship in the workplace under the supervision of a member of the Ordre or of the magistrature.
Admission routes include eligibility and diploma requirements via the Comité d'accès à la profession (CAP), and admission for foreign-trained jurists via the Comité des équivalences. A language proficiency examination from the Office de la langue française is also part of the admissions process.
