A private Quebec training centre, operated by Énergir, that teaches skills for the safe distribution and use of natural gas.
The École de technologie gazière (ETG) of Énergir is a training centre recognized by the Quebec Ministry of Education and Higher Education. Its mission is to develop and renew the skills needed for the safe distribution and use of natural gas, through complete training in a state-of-the-art technological environment. The school is located in Boucherville, Quebec, and also provides teaching and assistance services to Énergir's commercial partners, industrial clientele, and public safety stakeholders.
In 1960, Énergir inaugurated its first internal training centre devoted to gas technologies teaching. A few years later, the establishment named École de technologie gazière (ETG) extended its training activities to the entire gas sector workforce. In 1993, the school obtained accreditation from the Quebec Ministry of Education and Higher Education, recognizing it as a private teaching centre.
The school's approach is based on competencies and is supported by real simulations in working conditions. After its 1993 accreditation, it was able to design a program leading to an attestation de spécialisation professionnelle (ASP). It also offers the Programme d'accès à la qualification gaz (PAQ), a comprehensive training program that replaces the on-the-job learning hours required by Emploi-Québec. Training services for gas professionals include activités de perfectionnement, the Programme de qualification au gaz, and services and training for businesses.
The school's facilities include laboratories equipped with residential, commercial and industrial gas appliances. Its installations are described as unique in Canada, including the largest appliance laboratory and a training site for real-situation work. Listed facilities include the Laboratoires, Section haute efficacité, Section commerciale et industrielle, and Quartier de l'énergie.
