Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College of Education was established in 2005 and is a private, self-financed institution. It is run by Dr. S. P. Mukherjee Educational Society, Ghungoor, Silchar-14. The college is recognised by NCTE and affiliated to Assam University, Silchar. Its mission is to encourage student teachers to be global citizens, serving human beings at large through the noble profession of teaching.
The college offers a B.Ed. course, a professional two-year programme of four semesters conducted face to face. The proposed intake for the B.Ed. course is 100. Students gain practice teaching experience in 7 conventional secondary schools. Admission is through the B.Ed. Entrance Examination conducted by Assam University.
Its library holds 3866 books and its reading room has a seating capacity of 100. Laboratories include Science, Psychology, ICT and Multipurpose laboratories.
