History
DG Vaishnav College was established in 1964 by Rajasthanis and Gujaratis settled in Chennai for the cause of higher education. The college opened on 30th June 1964 with one course in B.Sc. Mathematics, and Shri. Totadri Iyengar served as its first Principal. The college was founded on the principles of Vaishnavism, with the purpose of imparting value based quality education and empowering the youth.
Mission and Vision
The college aims to impart value based quality academia and empower students with wisdom, while charging them with rich Indian traditions and culture. Its mission is to impart knowledge, help students acquire skills and imbibe values, and develop their personality and character. The college seeks to help students evolve into humane and responsible citizens.
Academics
The curriculum is reviewed and updated periodically in keeping with changes in arts, commerce, science and technology. An interdisciplinary, multi disciplinary approach is used in designing course work to ensure industry-academia collaboration. The institution also focuses on developing entrepreneurship skills among students, and its research priority is understanding complex issues, exploring new avenues and contributing to development of knowledge.

The college has a hostel with facilities including a dining area, RO purifier water plant, security, indoor and outdoor games, Wi-Fi and internet, and room facilities. The college has entered into collaborations with many institutions and organizations.
Admissions
Undergraduate admission to aided courses (Day Stream, Shift I) and unaided courses (Shift II, State Board and CBSE) is through counselling. Eligibility for UG courses is based on +2 subject requirements. Applications for UG and PG admission are submitted through an online portal.
