History & Mission
Deshbandhu College was established in 1952 by the Ministry of Rehabilitation to honor freedom fighter Lala Deshbandhu Gupta. Beginning with just 72 students and courses in Prep (Arts), Prep (Science), and Pre-medical, the college was later transferred to the Ministry of Education and taken over by the University of Delhi. The college's vision is to nurture vibrant working spaces for excellence in teaching-learning, research, skill development, innovation, and entrepreneurship based on principles of inclusivity, equity, and well-being.
Academics
The college offers undergraduate programs in B.A. (Programme), B.Sc., and B.Com. (Honours), with postgraduate courses also available. B.A. (Prog) students can choose from Modern Indian Languages including Bengali, Punjabi, Sanskrit, and Sindhi. The curriculum follows the National Education Policy (NEP) framework. The college operates under the University of Delhi's examination and academic systems, with departments across multiple disciplines and a South Cluster Co-Hub facility.
Research & Innovation
The college maintains a dedicated Research & Development Cell with research supervisors, laboratories, and a Central Research Facility known as the I4 Centre. The institution actively pursues research projects, publications, and international collaborations. Campus & Infrastructure
Located in Kalkaji, New Delhi, the college features one of the largest libraries in terms of space and collection, providing access to electronic resources through Delhi University Library System (DULS) and UGC-INFONET Consortium. The campus includes research laboratories, modern ICT infrastructure, sports facilities, and spaces for cultural and co-curricular activities including NCC, NSS, and various student societies.
Admissions & Student Life
Undergraduate admissions follow the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) with merit-based selection.
