Academics
The department offers three programmes built on analytical rigour and real-world application. The Master of Management (2 years) provides a hard core in economics, statistics, probability, and finance, with soft core courses from engineering and science departments, culminating in a six-month project. The Master of Management (Research) (2 years) is research-focused with close faculty supervision and publication-oriented output, serving as a pathway to the PhD. The PhD in Management (4–5 years) enables doctoral research on problems where formal methods intersect with governance and societal consequence, with interdisciplinary coursework and institute scholarships available.
Research & Distinctive Approach
The department occupies a unique position combining computational depth beyond typical management schools with policy and social-systems reach exceeding typical engineering departments. Research is problem-first, starting from real challenges in energy systems, financial markets, public health, and water governance, then selecting appropriate analytical tools. Faculty apply rigorous methods including stochastic control, game theory, epidemiological modelling, machine learning, and survey methods to address systems shaping people's lives in India and emerging economies.
