A two-year residential early college high school for gifted Kentucky juniors and seniors earning 60+ free college credits.
Craft Academy is a two-year residential program for academically exceptional high school juniors and seniors. Students complete their final two years of high school while simultaneously earning at least 60 college-credit hours through Morehead State University courses. The Academy specializes in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), with an average class size of 16 students. Upon graduation, students receive both a high school diploma and college credits, positioning them for seamless transition to four-year universities.
Students live on the Morehead State University campus in Craft Tower (formerly Alumni Tower), providing a full residential college experience. The Academy offers on-campus dining, recreation facilities, and wellness services. While athletics are intramural only, students have access to the university's recreation center and can participate in various clubs and activities. The program emphasizes both academic rigor and personal development, with a focus on safety and community.
Craft Academy admits exceptionally gifted high school students from across Kentucky. The first graduating class (2017) had 55 students; the Academy originally admitted 60 students per class but has increased enrollment with state funding growth. The Class of 2023 admitted 69 students. Prospective students can apply through the official website and schedule visits to learn more about the program.
All tuition, room and board, and meal plans are provided free of charge to students. The Academy is supported by a public-private partnership between the Craft family and the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Joe and Kelly Craft have committed over $10 million to the Academy since its founding, representing the largest donation in Morehead State University history.
