Conrad Grebel University College is a liberal arts college founded by the Mennonite church and affiliated with the University of Waterloo. It is located at 140 Westmount Road North, Waterloo, ON, Canada, N2L 3G6. The college's mission is to seek wisdom, nurture faith, and pursue justice and peace in service to church and society.
Ontario Mennonite leaders established Grebel to provide training for Mennonite young adults attending secular universities. The college was chartered in 1961, taught its first classes in 1963, and dedicated its first building, a residence for 106 students, in 1964. J. Winfield Fretz began service as Grebel's first president in 1963. The college added "University" to its name in June 2001 and established its own Graduate Theological Studies in 1987.
Grebel teaches within the Arts faculty at the University of Waterloo and administers the Music and Peace and Conflict Studies programs. It offers graduate programs in Theological Studies and Peace and Conflict Studies. Ontario provincial funding has typically provided half of the college's income through grants and undergraduate tuition fees.
Grebel has a residence program with 170 residence and apartment spaces each term for University of Waterloo students. Facilities listed include the Milton Good Library, Mennonite Archives of Ontario, a dining room, games room, chapel, fitness centre, sports facilities, and a quiet study room known as The Morgue.
Admission routes include an audition for the Music Undergraduate Program, academic admission through the University of Waterloo, and a Grebel residence application that includes a group interview.
