UTI provides diploma, certificate, and associate degree programs focused on hands-on, industry-aligned technical training. Most programs require less than one year to complete. The institute offers training in automotive, diesel, marine, motorcycle, aviation, welding, HVACR, robotics, industrial maintenance, and electrical technologies. All UTI campuses are accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC), recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Programs employ a blended-learning approach combining online lectures with in-person, hands-on lab training using industry-standard tools and equipment.
UTI operates 16 trade school campuses across nine states: Arizona (Avondale, Phoenix), California (Long Beach, Rancho Cucamonga, Sacramento), Florida (Miramar, Orlando), Illinois (Lisle), Michigan (Canton), New Jersey (Bloomfield), North Carolina (Mooresville), Pennsylvania (Exton), and Texas (Austin, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio). An additional campus in Atlanta, Georgia is scheduled to open in 2026. Student services include academic advising, tutoring, disability services, financial aid, veteran support, and career services. Housing assistance and disability services are available to support student success.
UTI welcomes students seeking career-focused technical training and offers multiple start dates throughout the year. The institute provides comprehensive support for military and veteran students, including military-specific admissions representatives, veteran-only campus orientations, and lounge areas. Many UTI programs are approved for GI Bill funding, and the institute participates in the Department of Defense SkillBridge program, offering eligible service members career training opportunities at Fort Bliss, Camp Pendleton, and Fort Bragg. Financial aid and scholarships are available to qualifying students.
Founded in 1965 by Robert Sweet to provide career-focused technical training for the transportation industry, UTI has expanded significantly through acquisitions and organic growth. In 1998, UTI acquired Motorcycle Mechanics Institute and Marine Mechanics Institute. In 2021, the company acquired MIAT College of Technology, adding programs in aviation, energy, and manufacturing. The acquisition of Concorde Career Colleges followed in 2022, further expanding UTI's platform of workforce solutions.
