Community Colleges of Spokane comprises two institutions offering comprehensive educational pathways. Spokane Community College provides two-year transfer degrees and over 60 career-technical programs in manufacturing, transportation, building trades, environmental science, business, information technology, public safety, hospitality, and culinary arts. Its health sciences division is the largest among Washington's community colleges. Spokane Falls Community College emphasizes transfer degrees (60% of enrollment) and specialized career-technical programs including orthotic/prosthetic technician, hearing instrument specialist, and therapy assistant roles. SFCC is recognized as a center for visual and performing arts with strong programs in drama, music, fine art, photography, and graphic design.
Both colleges offer workforce training and continuing education through customized corporate programs. SCC's Institute for Extended Learning (merged 2012–13) provides Adult Basic Education, GED, ESL, and High School Completion programs. SCC operates rural education centers in Colville, Inchelium, Ione, Newport, and Republic, Washington. SFCC maintains education centers at Fairchild Air Force Base and in Pullman. The district also operates Spokane Head Start/ECEAP/Early Head Start, providing early childhood education and family services.
The combined intercollegiate sports program competes in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges East Region as the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch (Bigfoot). Sports include soccer, cross country, volleyball, basketball, track and field, tennis, golf, baseball, and softball. SFCC features the Student Athletic Center and SFCC Stadium on campus.
SFCC maintains a close working relationship with the Mukogawa Fort Wright Institute, a higher education facility adjacent to campus serving Japanese students studying in the U.S.
