CSI offers associate, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees across liberal arts, sciences, engineering, and professional studies. The college participates in CUNY's Macaulay Honors College and awards master's degrees in 21 fields. Doctoral programs are available through partnerships with the CUNY Graduate Center in biology, chemistry, computer science, and physics, and with City College in engineering. Clinical doctorates are awarded in nursing and physical therapy.
The campus features more than 80 science labs, including the Center for Developmental Neuroscience and the CUNY High-Performance Computing Center (HPCC), one of the region's most powerful supercomputers. The CSI Library holds 183,238 physical books, 1.4+ million ebooks, and extensive archives documenting the college's history and Staten Island heritage.
The 204-acre Willowbrook campus is the largest by physical size in New York City. Students live in Dolphin Cove student housing and engage in 16 NCAA Division II sports, clubs, cultural events, and diversity programs. The college emphasizes pluralism through its Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, LGBTQ Resource Center, and Office of Social Justice.
CSI welcomes first-time freshmen, transfer students, graduate students, international students, adult learners, and returning students. The college offers academic advisement, tutoring, testing and placement, orientation, and the CLUE program. Free associate degrees are available to qualifying New York State residents ages 25–55 through the SUNY/CUNY Reconnect Programs.
Forbes ranks CSI 451st nationally and 152nd among public colleges (2018). The college is ranked 37th nationally for upward economic mobility (2017 SMI Ranking) and received a B grade from the High Impact Universities Research Performance Index. Newsweek has recognized CSI as one of America's Best Colleges for Women.
