Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) is located in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, with postal code 495 009. Its mission is to prepare competent, caring, courteous, courageous and compassionate medical professionals, and to carry out need-based, result-oriented research in all disciplines of medicine.
History
CIMS was established as an undergraduate institution for the M.B.B.S. degree course on October 10, 2001, with an initial intake of 180 medical students annually, under Guru Ghasidas University, Bilaspur. The old government district hospital (Dharam Hospital) in Bilaspur was converted into the CIMS hospital with 300 beds, and its staff were merged. The Government of India granted recognition for the M.B.B.S. degree by a letter dated July 23, 2007. The Department of Anatomy came into existence in December 2001.
Academics
CIMS offers the MBBS course with 150 seats per year, lasting 5½ years including one year of internship. The course is recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI), New Delhi, and is affiliated to the Ayush University of Chhattisgarh, Raipur. The Department of Community Medicine is actively involved in research and epidemiological investigations apart from teaching. The institute also offers PG (MD/MS) admissions through All India Quota and State Quota.
Campus & Facilities
The attached hospital has 550 beds and is run on a unit system. The campus includes a 1500-seat air-conditioned auditorium and hostel facilities for girls and boys. Listed facilities include a college library with Wi-Fi and internet access, departmental libraries, an operation theatre complex, emergency services, an outpatient department, a special investigations laboratory, and a physiotherapy and rehabilitation department. A 3 Tesla MRI scan was inaugurated in February 2021, installed with financial assistance from the CSR fund of SECL.
