The Co-Operative Institute of Health Sciences (CIHS) is situated in Thalassery, Kannur, Kerala. It was established in 1999 under the Kerala Co-Operative Hospital Federation Ltd (KCHF). The founder chairman of the college is Sri. Narayanan. The college was founded with a goal to deliver high-quality healthcare education and services to the northern region of Malabar.
History
The institution started with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) course affiliated under Calicut University in 1999. In 2014, all its courses were affiliated to Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS), Thrissur.
Academics
The college offers BPT, BSc Medical Laboratory Technology, BSc Medical Microbiology and BSc Medical Biochemistry courses, with the paramedical courses added in 2008. In 2010, a postgraduate programme in physiotherapy (MPT) with 3 specializations was sanctioned by Kannur University. All courses are approved by the Kerala Paramedical Council, Government of Kerala. The annual intake is 50 seats in BPT, 32 seats in BSc MLT, 24 seats in BSc Medical Microbiology and 24 seats in BSc Medical Biochemistry. The MPT programme has 9 seats in musculoskeletal and sports, 3 seats in cardiorespiratory and 3 seats in neurology.
