A distance education centre in Montréal offering adult education programs leading to secondary or vocational diplomas in Quebec.
The Centre de formation à distance du Grand Montréal is located at 5055 boulevard Métropolitain Est, Montréal, Quebec H1R 1Z7. The centre offers programs of Quebec's Éducation des adultes system. Since 1995, it has provided training to thousands of adult students who continued their studies or entered the job market.
Students can complete a diploma of secondary studies (DES) or a vocational diploma (DEP) in secretarial work (DEP 5357) or accounting (DEP 5231). The DES requires accumulating 54 units from 4th and 5th secondary, including at least 20 from 5th secondary. General courses include French, English as a second language, mathematics, chemistry, science and technology, physics, biology, history, and microcomputing. Earning course units requires completing assignments and then a supervised exam. Course success is sanctioned by the Ministère de l'Éducation, which issues the official transcript and diploma.
Applicants must be at least 16 years old on June 30 of the current school year, reside in Quebec, and have completed primary studies. Admission routes include regular registration by file, a diagnostic test for adults without a secondary diploma, the Test d'équivalence de niveau de scolarité (TENS), GED tests, and the Test de développement général (TDG). A computer with Internet access is required for all courses.
The centre operates as a distance education centre. Each student is assigned a tutor who can be contacted in writing or by telephone. Students outside the service area of the Centre de services scolaire de la Pointe-de-l'Île must arrange supervised exams at a school in their own region.
