A Québec City vocational training centre named after educator Maurice Barbeau, offering practice-focused professional programs in person and online.
The Centre de formation professionnelle Maurice-Barbeau is located at 920, rue Noël-Carter in Québec City, Québec, G1V 5B6. It can be reached by phone at 418 652-2184. Programs are offered in person and online.
The Centre was inaugurated in December 2003 and is named after Maurice Barbeau, a citizen who left a deep mark as an educator and developer of education in the Quebec City region. Before his election as commissioner in 1958, Barbeau was a professor and director of the bachelor's program in pedagogy at Université Laval. From 1958 to 1974, he served as commissioner and president of the Commission scolaire de Sainte-Foy.
The Centre's programs are centred on practice, and its teachers are all labour-market specialists who supervise the practical application of theory. All professional study programs include an internship, and ATE programs include at least 20% of training in a company. The Vente-conseil and Représentation programs are offered in a traditional lecture format, while Bijouterie-joaillerie, Photographie, Dessin de bâtiment and Lancement d'une entreprise are offered through individualized instruction. The educational project aims to promote student success and reduce the dropout rate while increasing the graduation rate. Services Québec considers the Centre's programs to offer good or excellent job prospects.
