Central Connecticut offers more than 100 undergraduate majors across 80+ fields of study, organized within four academic schools. Graduate programs span accountancy, education, literature, international studies, engineering technology, information technology, and doctoral degrees. The university employs over 400 full-time faculty, 83% of whom hold terminal degrees in their fields, supplemented by 481 part-time instructors. Nearly 15% of undergraduate and 12% of graduate programs are available in hybrid modality, with limited online offerings.
The 165-acre suburban campus features 10 academic halls, Elihu Burritt Library, Marcus White Hall computer labs, and extensive athletic facilities including an Olympic-size pool and multiple sports fields. Student housing accommodates up to 2,500 in ten residence halls; a new $82 million Mid Campus Residence Hall opened in 2015. Dining is available in Memorial Hall, Hilltop Dining Center, and the Student Center. The university offers vibrant student life with clubs, campus recreation, living-learning communities, and career development services.
In 2024, Central Connecticut accepted 76.7% of undergraduate applicants with very easy admission standards. Enrolled students averaged a 3.2 high school GPA. Standardized test scores are optional; those submitted averaged 1050 SAT (53% submitting) or 21 ACT (1% submitting). The university welcomes first-year, transfer, graduate, and international students through multiple pathways.
In 2025, U.S. News & World Report ranked Central Connecticut tied for No. 66 among Regional Universities in the North, No. 24 in Top Public Schools, and No. 50 in Best Value Schools. The university also ranked tied for No. 190 in Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs and No. 29 in Best Colleges for Veterans. Notable alumni include U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, MLB umpire John Hirschbeck, and numerous athletes, entertainers, and public servants.
