History

The college was founded in Gaspé in 1968. In 1969 it assumed administrative responsibility for the École des pêcheries in Grande-Rivière. In 1983 the Centre d'études collégiales des Îles-de-la-Madeleine was established at L'Étang-du-Nord, and the institution became the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles. The Centre d'études collégiales de Carleton-sur-Mer was set up in 1989, and in 2007 the Centre spécialisé des pêches became the École des pêches et de l'aquaculture du Québec. In 2015 a Montréal campus was created, offering attestations of collegial studies to international students until 2025. In 2020 a permanent office was established in Dakar, Senegal, to support international cooperation projects in Africa.

Academics and Campus

The college offers more than twenty preuniversity, technical and professional programs. It has three campuses in Gaspé, Carleton-sur-Mer and Îles-de-la-Madeleine, plus the École des pêches et de l'aquaculture du Québec in Grande-Rivière. Each campus has a library, and the college provides electronic resources and student residence facilities.
